This role is seeking a highly seasoned, operationally focused individual to take full command of the manufacturing facility during operational hours. This position will require a tactical leader who will spend most of their time on the floor, serving as a liaison between the daily operations and the General Manager.
The ideal candidate will be an expert in high-volume production flow, possessing the technical acumen to troubleshoot downtime and the leadership acumen required to manage performance and safety in a fast-paced environment
Strategic Production Oversight & GM Support:
- Function as the Primary Site Leader during designated shifts, exercising full autonomy to make critical operational decisions.
- Translate daily production targets into actionable hourly milestones for machine operators and floor staff.
- Provide detailed shift-handover reports to the General Manager, highlighting variances in output, labour issues, and mechanical concerns.
Advanced Performance Control & Workforce Management
- Active Supervision: Move beyond passive monitoring to active coaching; identify delays in human performance and intervene immediately.
- Conflict Resolution: Manage on-site grievances or disciplinary issues in real-time to ensure production continuity.
- KPI Accountability: Drive shift performance against specific targets: OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), Quality Yield, and Labour Efficiency.
Lean Operations & Waste Elimination:
- Aggressive Waste Reduction: Implement and audit zero-waste initiatives focusing on raw material scrap, energy consumption, and labour idle time.
- Downtime Mitigation: Act as the first responder to mechanical stoppages. Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) is kept to an absolute minimum.
- Root Cause Analysis: For significant stoppages, lead a "5-Whys" or similar analysis to prevent recurrence on future shifts.
End-to-End Supply Chain Synchronisation:
- Inbound Flow: Audit the supply of raw materials to the line; ensure that no machine sits idle due to logistical failures or "dry" staging area
- Outbound Flow: Oversee the final quality check and the seamless transition of finished goods into the warehouse. Eliminate "bottlenecking" at the end of the line.
- Inventory Integrity: Ensure accurate real-time recording of material usage and finished units to prevent inventory discrepancies.
Safety Leadership & PPE Compliance:
- Safety Culture: Move beyond policing to building a culture where PPE compliance is second nature.
- Incident Management: Conduct immediate investigations into near misses, incidents and accidents occurring on shift.
- Zero Tolerance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and local OHS legislation without exception.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Relevant Tertiary Education: A National Diploma or Degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field is highly advantageous.
- Manufacturing Background: 5 to 10 years of Supervisory experience specifically in a manufacturing or industrial warehouse environment.
Core and Technical Competencies :
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret production data and adjust resource allocation to meet targets.
- Shift Resilience: This role requires a candidate who is physically and mentally prepared for the rigors of permanent rotational work, specifically the Night Shift cycle.
- Deep familiarity with PLC-driven machinery, high-speed conveyors, and automated packaging systems.
