We are seeking a Junior Commis Chef to support the kitchen team in delivering high-quality food across all business channels.
The successful candidate will assist senior chefs with basic food preparation and help ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen. The role requires a strong focus on hygiene, efficiency, and consistency across retail and wholesale production, banqueting and events, Halaal catering, and restaurant operations.
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Certificate in Culinary Arts or a related qualification
- 1–3 years’ experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar role
- Experience in food handling and kitchen environments.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure workstations are clean and properly sanitised at all times.
- Accurately measure and prepare ingredients as required by the Chef.
- Assist with food preparation and cooking as instructed.
- Prepare dishes according to the Chef’s direction and company standards.
- Receive deliveries of raw ingredients, check quality, and report or discard spoiled items.
- Ensure refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms are clean and well-maintained.
- Assist with stock taking and inventory control.
