About the Role
OMN1 is looking for a Junior Backend Developer to join our engineering team and support the development, maintenance, and improvement of the backend services, APIs, databases, and supporting systems that power the OMN1 platform.
You will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to the development of reliable, secure, and scalable backend functionality.
This is an opportunity for a motivated junior developer to gain practical experience working on a live technology platform and contribute to real-world software development.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs.
- Work within the OMN1 backend and database technology stack.
- Implement backend features based on technical and product requirements.
- Develop and maintain API endpoints and backend functionality.
- Work with database queries, structures, relationships, and data.
- Diagnose and resolve backend bugs and application issues.
- Assist with performance, reliability, and scalability improvements.
- Implement appropriate security and access controls.
- Maintain third-party integrations and supporting services.
- Assist with troubleshooting production and development issues.
- Write clean, structured, reusable, and maintainable code.
- Participate in testing, debugging, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Collaborate with software developers, QA, and other engineering team members.
- Follow OMN1 engineering, development, and security standards.

Experience with all of the technologies above is not required. Candidates with strong programming fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- Relevant qualification or practical experience in Software Development, Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- 0–2 years of backend development experience, including internships, personal projects, or practical development experience.
- Understanding of backend development and server-side programming.
- Understanding of APIs and client-to-server communication.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Familiarity with Git and modern software development practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a development team.
Advantageous
- Experience with Node.js.
- Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or Supabase.
- Experience developing REST APIs.
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization.
- Understanding of database relationships and query optimisation.
- Experience working with GitHub.
- Familiarity with real-time systems or WebSocket-based applications.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs or services.
