ABOUT THE FARM
Linton Farms is a 5 000 ha cattle and sheep operation near Adelaide, Eastern Cape, South Africa, comprising 35 ha of irrigated pasture, lucerne production lands, and extensive mountain veld.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You are someone who grew up on or around a farm and finds as much satisfaction fixing a pump or moving a fence as you do watching a paddock recover after a good grazing rotation. You are detail-oriented and approach problems with an engineering mindset — you notice what's wrong before it becomes a crisis, and you think through solutions methodically. You take pride in your work, lead by example with your team, and have a genuine curiosity about how livestock and land can be managed better together.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and maintain tractors, TLBs and heavy machinery
- Manage pumps, irrigation systems and all farm infrastructure
- Supervise fencing and maintenance teams
- Lucerne baling and fodder management
- Manage 35 ha of irrigated pasture and rotational grazing blocks
- Assist with sheep and cattle husbandry and animal health
- Support finishing animals on veld and irrigated pasture
- Maintain accurate records: grazing moves, water, maintenance logs
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
- Proven hands-on farming ability — confident with practical problem-solving in the field
- Engineering mindset — methodical approach to diagnosing and fixing mechanical and infrastructure problems; detail-oriented in all aspects of the role
- Sound knowledge of pumps, tractors, TLBs and farm equipment maintenance
- Experience managing fencing and labour teams
- Demonstrable experience with sheep and/or cattle, including basic animal health (drenching, dosing, identifying sick animals)
- Ability to manage irrigated pastures and lucerne production
- Fluent in Afrikaans and isiXhosa — essential for team communication across the operation
- Digitally literate — comfortable using WhatsApp, spreadsheets, and farm management apps for daily record-keeping
- Valid Code 08 driver's licence minimum; Code 10/14 advantageous
- Comfortable with physical outdoor work in all conditions across a large farm
HIGHLY ADVANTAGEOUS
★ Experience with or genuine passion for high-intensity / adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing systems
★ Interest in regenerative farming principles — soil health, pasture recovery, carbon sequestration
★ Experience finishing beef cattle or lamb on natural veld and pasture
Pay: R15 000,00 - R20 000,00 per month
