CUSTOMS BROKER DURBAN
Scan Global Logistics South Africa Pty (Ltd) is seeking to employ a Senior Customs Broker. The successful incumbent will be responsible for Customs in Durban branch.
The Position reports directly to the National Customs Manager and is based in La Lucia Ridge, Durban KwaZulu Natal)
The ideal commencement date is 01 August 2026
Experience and Qualifications
The ideal applicant must have a demonstrated track record of working in the same or similar role for a minimum of 5 years experience, and use of customs programs including experience within the freight industry
Main Duties
The successful incumbent will in the main be responsible for:

Informing and advising customers about the correct formalities for international goods traffic.

Complete the administrative formalities

Prepare and process import/export documents and other forms on behalf of clients according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures.

Sign import/export document on behalf of clients, using correct power of attorney when applicable.

Provide quote / estimates on duty and tax rates and regulations on commodities for clients.

Classify goods according to tariff coding system.

Calculate duty and tariff payments owed on shipments.

Provide advice to clients on import- and export regulations / restrictions / tariff system / letter of credit / insurance requirements and other customs related matters.

Monitor and trace documentation- and goods flow.

To read and understand information and translate it to our clients.

Apply general rules / laws.

Follow all country’s regulations and keep the highest possible standard possible with regards to compliance.

Analyze specific problems and produce correct / compliant answers to the client that make sense and fall within the rules and regulations.

Monitoring operational irregularities in shipments and making sure this is tackled

Follow up of daily orders.

Follow up files in case of customs inspection.

In case of irregularities / problems transfer the file / escalate to relevant manager.

Update all registers to allow for the management of time sensitive matters, in example, and not limited to deposits lodged, penalties requiring appeal, Refunds, Drawbacks, Bond extensions etc.

On request visit local bond stores to ensure compliance in regards to record keeping, acquittals, stock balances, registers etc.

Conduct routine visits and inspections at bond stores and warehouses to verify compliance with customs legislation, record-keeping requirements, inventory controls, stock balances, acquittals, and operational processes, and report any irregularities or corrective actions required.
