ABOUT THE SELECTION TEAM
The Selection team is responsible for carefully selecting at scale Africa's next generation of tech leaders who will lead, innovate, and introduce the world to the future. We are accountable for:
- Improving the ALX selection process based on business intelligence and direction
- Delivering the ALX selection process for all our learning programmes
- Working closely with corporate training partners to identify which of their talent would benefit or qualify for tech training.
- Providing key business stakeholders with daily, up to date selection analytics, trends and insights.
We create, build, deliver, track and , analyse and evolve the selection processes for millions of applicants and learners, and are responsible for meeting the organisation's enrollment targets.
We are also responsible for providing deep insights and accurate predictions to our key internal stakeholders through customers insights and trend reports, automated systems and algorithms that further help us improve our selection process and business decisions at scale.
ABOUT THE ROLE
At the forefront of our innovative talent acquisition strategy, you play a crucial role in steering and rebuilding our selection process across multiple programs and customer groups, including B2C and B2B segments.
This role demands a hands-on approach to data and machine learning, working with your lean team to drive selection processes at scale through the use of predictive analytics, contributing significantly to the development of our talent ranking and matching processes, enhancing our use of more advanced algorithms and recommender engines.
You will own, create, build, and manage the selection processes for all of our learning programmes, while undertaking continuous improvement and innovation of best in class systems, operations and process in the selection team in general, driving actionable insights and efficiency into everything we do.
Your leadership will ensure the strategic alignment of the selection process with our overarching business goals, setting new industry standards for talent identification and acquisition.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
You will architect and execute a forward-thinking selection strategy that aligns with our overarching business goals of selecting, training and deploying millions of Africa's youth by 2035. You will provide oversight, planning, and execution guidance and support when necessary to ensure your team collectively meets its goals and targets.
You will lead the charge in innovation and process improvement, enhancing our talent selection methodology by employing the latest in technology and analytics to elevate our processes. You own the blueprint to make our selection process robust, repeatable, predictable, and scalable at low cost
- Knowledge of what good talent looks like and how one screens for it to clearly define and update our selection criteria to deploy best practices and that selects top talent at scale.
- Build, document and manage the entire selection project plan, process maps and customer journey maps.
- Build reporting templates and complete trend reports to enhance business intelligence.
- Building models that correlate actual performance of talent in our programs and in employment with our selection scoring. Provide input to key data projects, and champion the use of analytics in decision-making.
- Oversee the development and refinement of predictive models and solutions, talent ranking and matching algorithms, and recommender systems.
- Identify and implement process improvements across the team, leveraging data insights for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
You will foster a culture of cross-functional collaboration, focusing on operational excellence and timeous, effective stakeholder engagement.
- Manage complex projects, prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment, and maintaining high levels of stakeholder satisfaction.
- Timeous, continuous reporting and feedback to key internal and external stakeholders.
- Address challenges and troubleshoot issues in collaboration with B2B and B2C customers.
You will build and mentor a high-performing team through team development and performance management, setting a standard for excellence.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in a related field
- 5+ years of experience in leading cross-functional teams and projects, with the ability to inspire, manage, and develop a team of professionals in a high-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to drive processes and decision-making at scale, with a solid track record in developing and implementing successful predictive models.
- Ability to analyze complex problems to make independent, informed decisions and solve problems effectively.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities to effectively convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders and to foster strong team and stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualise and align strategies with broader business objectives.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including setting timelines, milestones, and budgets, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Demonstrated ability to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and automate processes within a domain. This includes leveraging technology to optimize workflows, reduce manual tasks, and ensure scalability of processes.
NICE TO HAVE:
Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or Engineering. Experience in the selection processes of an online, distance training institution
- Familiarity with ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems), CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tools, and other technologies relevant to talent selection and management.
- Familiarity with big data platforms and tools, such as Hadoop, Spark, or others, which can be critical for managing and analyzing large data sets.
Evidence of thought leadership in the field, through contributions to industry publications, speaking engagements, or active participation in relevant forums and conferences.
