The Position
The Programme Analyst, RHCS, is based in the UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) in Johannesburg. This role provides operational, technical, and analytical support to strengthen reproductive health (RH) commodity security in targeted countries across the region. The incumbent will also contribute program management and technical support to the implementation of the UNFPA Supplies Partnership programme, specifically assisting with the management of the Gates Foundation Grant under ESARO.

Job Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of the regional Family Planning Specialist, this position serves as a key support function, providing technical, program management, and coordination assistance to strengthen the effective, efficient, and sustainable management of reproductive health commodities and contributing to the broader Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) across the region. The role spans multiple countries supported by the Gates Foundation and operates under the framework of the UNFPA Supplies Partnership Phase III Programme.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Programme Management and Grant Support
- Provide program management and operational support to implementation, monitoring, and reporting on the Gates Foundation grant and overall UNFPA Supplies Partnership funding stream.
- Support the technical team’s informed participation in strategic engagements with internal and external partners.
- Support the compilation of program data, including key performance indicators and financial performance, and assist in drafting quality donor and other relevant program reports.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of work plans in line with the UNFPA Supplies Partnership Phase III Programme in the region.
2. Supply Chain Operations and Technical Assistance
- Provide support in coordinating the regional team’s technical support to ESAR countries in quantification, forecasting, supply planning, commodity procurement, logistics management, and continuous stock monitoring to enhance SRHR commodity security...
- Support the ESARO technical teams in strengthening data quality, operational performance, and implementing partner compliance to good supply chain management practices to prevent stock-outs, overstocking, expiries, losses, and misuse of UNFPA-donated supplies and data related to Family Planning and other SRHR aspects.
- Provide routine virtual and, when necessary, in-person support to country teams on the management of program supplies in line with the UNFPA Policy on management of program supplies.
3. Data Management and Capacity Development
- Provide assistance in the rollout and routine use of Logistics Management Information Systems (LMIS/eLMIS).
- Support countries in the collection, validation, and analysis of logistics and other program data.
- Contribute to the preparation of routine operational reports, dashboards, and analytical summaries on program and supply chain performance.
- Contribute to capacity development of country teams through training activities and coaching related to the management of program supplies.
4. Other Duties
- Perform any other duties as may be required by the direct supervisor and UNFPA management in support of the regional program.
Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills required
- Advanced university degree in public health, pharmacy, supply chain management, relevant field of social science, or other related fields.
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in family planning, RH commodity management, supply chain operations, programme support, public health, or international development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of RH commodity security, including issues of access and availability.
- Strong professional oral and writing skills, including the ability to draft quality reports, presentations, briefing notes, and technical documents.
- Ability to synthesize complex information and messages into digestible presentations and documents for non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of and experience in supporting programme management, technical monitoring, and results-based management principles.
Languages
- Fluency in English
- Knowledge of other official UN languages is an asset.
