Responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of machinery and equipment within the manufacturing facility. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of production processes, minimising downtime, and optimising machine performance.
- Safely install and set up new machinery and equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and engineering drawings
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and calibration of machines to ensure optimal functionality
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to keep machinery in good working condition
- Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and part replacements to prevent breakdowns and ensure safety
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in machines and equipment
- Perform repairs and replacements of faulty components, including bearings, gears, motors, and control systems
- Utilise welding and fabrication skills to repair or modify machine components as needed
- Ensure welding work meets safety and quality standards
- Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety in the workplace
- Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards associated with machinery and equipment
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts inventory, and equipment manuals
- Generate reports to track machine performance and maintenance history
- Coordinate with other maintenance and production personnel to prioritise and schedule maintenance tasks
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to equipment upgrades and modifications to enhance efficiency and productivity
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergencies, working diligently to minimise production downtime
Qualification / Skills / Knowledge Required
- Qualified Millwright
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within the steel industry
- Strong Electrical orientation
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals
- Sound knowledge of maintenance system programs
- Computer proficient (Outlook, Word & Excel)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- High standards of workmanship with keen attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and able to work under pressure
- Commitment to workplace safety and the ability to follow safety guidelines rigorously
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Positive team player with a can do attitude
