The Role
We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor (QS) Min. 5 years experience to join our Project Development team in Cape Town. This role is central to ensuring our developments are cost-effective, accurate, and financially viable — from the early design stages right through to completion.
This is an independent role (i.e. there will only be 1 QS in the team of other disciplines within the industry) and the successful candidate would be required to, have sufficient working knowledge / experience, think independent and be capable of taking control of the function/role.
As our in-house QS, you will:
- Cost and feasibility assessments during concept and design development stages to guide decision-making before committing to designs and funding.
- Prepare and manage Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and tender documentation.
- Identify and assess potential risks with cost overruns, delays and other potential issues.
- Conduct accurate material quantity take-offs for small and large-scale projects.
- Evaluate, monitor and process contractor claims, variations, and progress payment applications to ensure accuracy, value for money and track expenditure to date versus planned .
- Monitor and provide input on budgets and cost control throughout construction phases. Track project progress against budget and schedule.
- Assist with funding applications and bank submissions by providing accurate cost breakdowns.
- Advise on procurement strategies and negotiate with suppliers/contractors.
- Travel to sites across South Africa (approx. once a month depending on number of projects) for inspections, measurements, and contractor meetings.
What We’re Looking For
- BSc/BTech in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
- Post-qualification experience in medium to high risk commercial/industrial projects.
- Strong skills in cost estimation, tender documentation, and contract administration.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (Candy, WinQS, CostX, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with AutoCAD or BIM software advantageous.
- Willingness to travel inter-provincially for site work.
