Automation Technician with PLC Programming Experience (Automotive)
Responsibilities:
- PLC Programming: Develop, troubleshoot, and modify PLC programs to control automated machinery and processes in accordance with automotive manufacturing requirements.
- System Integration: Integrate and configure various automation components, including sensors, actuators, and robotics, to ensure seamless operation of the production line.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues related to PLC systems, automation equipment, and associated control systems to minimize downtime.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, maintenance personnel, and production operators, to understand automation requirements and implement efficient solutions.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement improvements to enhance system reliability, efficiency, and productivity.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of PLC programs, automation systems, and troubleshooting procedures to facilitate knowledge transfer and future reference.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure that all automation systems and processes comply with safety regulations and standards within the automotive industry.
- Training: Provide training and support to operators and maintenance staff on the proper use, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automated systems.
- Quality Control: Monitor and implement quality control measures within automation processes to meet automotive industry standards and specifications.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergency situations and breakdowns, implementing quick and effective solutions to minimize production disruptions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A degree or diploma in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a Trade Tested Millwright.
- Experience: Proven experience in automation and PLC programming within the automotive industry of atleast 3 to 6 years.
- Must have Allen Bradley and or Siemens S7
- Must have robotics experience re Kuka, Nachi, ABB or Fanuk
- Mut be able to program PLC's
- Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).
- Knowledge of HMI (Human Machine Interface) design and configuration.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Experience with robotic systems and their integration into automation processes.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex automation issues.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to new technologies and stay updated on industry trends.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information effectively.
- Safety Focus: Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be willing to travel throughout South Africa and be on standby and work overtime when there is a major problem on site.
