Job Purpose
The incumbent will teach Population Ecosystems, Environmental Calculations and Statistics, and Environmental Resources Population Ecology for the Extended Curriculum Programme of Environmental Management; contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the department to enhance learning according to the needs of environmental management in the South African context; contribute towards the department’s work-integrated learning goals; and support departmental and faculty research initiatives through research initiatives and research collaboration. Furthermore, the successful candidate will also support the departmental and faculty research strategic plans through their own research initiatives, research collaboration and postgraduate supervision in Environmental Management and related fields.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- An appropriate Masters degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or equivalent
- Two years relevant working experience of which one year must be in teaching.
- Base qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or equivalent

- Industry experience will be an added advantage
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform in the following areas:
- Lecture subjects in the ECP Environmental Management (Population Ecosystems and Environmental ResourcesPopulation Ecology).
- Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content).
- Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department.
- Participate in curriculum development activities.
- Contribute to the department's Work Integrated Learning and community engagement goals.
- Supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate Environmental Health students for their exit-level projects.
- Participate in research and produce DHET-accredited publications at a rate of at least 0.5 publication units per year.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
- Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities.
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
