Position Title: Database Administrator (DBA)

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

Certifications: AWS Certified Database Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar. (Will be an advantage.)
Experience and Requirements:
-
10+ years of extensive Database Administration experience in enterprise environments.
-
Database Technologies: Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (including T-SQL, Service Broker, Reporting Services), PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.

Cloud Services: Experience with cloud database platforms (e.g., Azure SQL Database, Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL), as well as data lake and data warehousing solutions (Azure Data Lake, AWS Redshift, etc.).

DevOps Integration: Proficient in CI/CD pipelines for database changes using tools like GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.

Automation: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation scripting with PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

Security and Compliance: In-depth knowledge of database security practices, POPIA and experience with SIEM tools for database monitoring.

Performance Tuning and Optimization: Advanced skills in database performance tuning, query optimization, and the use of monitoring tools.

Backup and Recovery: Expertise in implementing robust backup and recovery strategies, utilizing both on-premise and cloud-based solutions.

Big Data Technologies: Exposure to big data platforms.

AI and ML Integration: Understanding of integrating databases with machine learning models and AI tools for predictive analytics and automation.

Data Governance: Experience with data governance tools for metadata management.

Middleware and Integration: Strong understanding of middleware technologies and microservices architecture (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Version Control: Proficient with Git and version control workflows.

Analytics and BI Tools: Experience with business intelligence platforms like Microsoft Power BI, and integration with data sources.
