Job Summary
The Junior Fleet Assistant will directly support the Johannesburg Fleet Manager in ensuring the daily operational readiness, safety, and compliance of the branch's fleet. Using basic motor mechanic knowledge, the candidate will perform systematic vehicle checks, identify technical defects, and handle fleet admin.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspections & Technical Diagnostics
- Conduct daily and weekly pre-trip inspection checklists on the fleet.
- Verify vital safety components including tyres (tread and pressure), brakes, lights, wipers, and fluid levels.
- Listen for abnormal engine noises, identify fluid leaks, and flag vehicle dashboard warning lights.
- Perform test drives around the Johannesburg branch to evaluate engine performance, clutch wear, and braking safety.
- Maintain a strict damage logbook to track dents, scratches, or missing equipment (e.g., delivery boxes or spare tyres).
Fleet Operations & Admin Support
- Assist the Fleet Manager by flagging upcoming service intervals based on mileage trackers.
- Drive fleet vehicles and motorbikes to and from external workshops or dealerships for scheduled servicing and repairs.
- Verify that outsourced repair work has been fully completed to standard before accepting vehicles back into service.
- Conduct formal vehicle handovers and turn-ins with drivers, logging fuel levels and physical vehicle conditions.
- Help monitor fuel usage logs and report anomalies, missing log sheets, or erratic driver behavior to the Fleet Manager.
Compliance & Maintenance Management
- Physically check and verify licence discs and Certificates of Fitness (COF) on all assets to avoid traffic fines.
- Keep the branch wash bay schedule organized to ensure all vehicles represent the company professionally on Johannesburg roads.
- Assist in coordinating roadside assistance or towing arrangements in the event of an accident or breakdown.
Pay: R10 000,00 - R12 000,00 per month
Education:
- High School (matric) (Preferred)
