Job Purpose
The POS Software Developer is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, enhancement, and support of Point of Sale (POS) applications used within the retail environment. The incumbent will work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to develop reliable, efficient, and user-friendly solutions that support retail operations. Experience with Delphi development is essential, while knowledge of the C programming language and exposure to the retail industry will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain POS software applications.
- Enhance existing POS systems by identifying opportunities for improved functionality and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, system issues, and user-reported incidents.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications and user guides.
- Collaborate with business analysts, support teams, and end-users to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Integrate POS applications with third-party systems such as inventory management, payment gateways, loyalty programmes, and ERP solutions.
- Conduct unit testing and participate in system integration and user acceptance testing.
- Ensure software solutions comply with established coding standards and security requirements.
- Provide technical support for deployed applications and participate in after-hours support when required.
- Assist in system upgrades, data migrations, and rollout activities across retail sites.
- Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Minimum RequirementsQualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in software development will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in software development.
- Proven experience developing applications using Delphi.
- Experience developing and supporting POS systems will be advantageous.
- Exposure to software development within the retail industry will be advantageous.
- Experience with system integrations and database-driven applications.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Delphi programming.
- Knowledge of C programming language will be advantageous.
- Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Familiarity with API development and integration concepts.
- Knowledge of payment processing systems and retail technologies will be advantageous.
- Understanding of troubleshooting techniques and performance optimisation.
