STRUCTURAL STEEL ERECTORS / WELDER-RIGGERS REQUIRED – PRETORIA
We are looking for experienced, hard-working Structural Steel Erectors / Welder-Riggers to join our construction and maintenance team based in Pretoria.
Applicants must be prepared to work on demanding construction and maintenance projects and complete work safely, professionally and to a high standard.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT – WORKING AT HEIGHTS
DO NOT APPLY if you do not have proven Working at Heights (WAH) experience and valid certification.
Candidates must:
- Have a valid Working at Heights certificate
- Be medically fit for Working at Heights, with valid medical certification
- Have proven experience working safely on steel structures, roofs and canopies
- Understand fall protection, PPE and safe working procedures
- Be comfortable working at height for extended periods
STRUCTURAL STEEL & CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE
You must have practical experience with:
- Structural steel erection and installation
- Steel structures, beams, channels, columns and associated components
- Canopy construction, repairs and maintenance
- Structural repairs and modifications
- New steel construction and erection
- Steel fabrication
- Welding and on-site repairs
- Roof structures and roof repairs
- Roof sheeting
- Sheet-metal work
- Building fascias
- Residential and industrial gutters, including box gutters
- General building and maintenance work
Welding experience is essential. A recognised welding qualification/certificate will be an advantage.
Rigging experience and relevant certification will also be a strong advantage.
SCAFFOLDING & ACCESS
Candidates must have experience with the safe use of scaffolding and access equipment.
Relevant scaffolding certificates are required where applicable.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT
Applicants must be competent and experienced in the safe operation of construction tools and small plant, including:
- Welding machines
- Angle grinders – large and small
- Portable drills and hammer drills
- Circular saws
- Impact hammers
- Air compressors
- Jackhammers
- Plate compactors
- General power tools
- Hammers
- Ratchets and sockets
- Vice grips
- Clamps
- Screwdrivers
- Side cutters
- Hand saws and other construction hand tools
Candidates may be required to demonstrate practical competence in the safe use of tools and equipment.
FINISHING & MAINTENANCE SKILLS
Experience with the following will be advantageous:
- Surface preparation
- Painting and finishing
- Cutting-in and detailed finishing
- Mechanical sanding
- Body filler repairs
- Skimming
- Corrosion preparation and treatment
- General building maintenance
HEALTH & SAFETY
Safety is non-negotiable.
Candidates must have practical experience with:
- Correct PPE
- Safe Work Procedures
- Toolbox Talks
- Risk Assessments
- Working at Heights procedures
- Safe use of power tools and equipment
- Construction-site safety requirements
ZERO TOLERANCE for unsafe behaviour or disregard of Health & Safety procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- Have 4–8 years' relevant experience in structural steel erection, construction and/or industrial maintenance
- Have proven Working at Heights experience
- Hold a valid WAH certificate
- Be medically fit to work at height
- Have practical welding experience
- Have structural steel erection/repair experience
- Be competent with construction power tools and equipment
- Be physically fit and willing to perform demanding site work
- Have strictly sober habits
- Be reliable, punctual and willing to work as part of a team
- Be prepared to work additional hours when project requirements demand it
- Be based in or able to work from the Pretoria area
- Have valid South African documentation and proof of address
ADVANTAGEOUS
- Welding certification
- Rigging certification and experience
- Scaffolding certification
- Petroleum/fuel-station construction or maintenance experience
- Fall Arrest certification
- First Aid / Fire Fighting / other construction safety training
- Experience with canopy and forecourt structures
