Senior Print Operator
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Print Operator to oversee the production of high-quality large-format digital print work. The successful candidate will have extensive experience operating roll-to-roll printers, vinyl cutters, laminators, and associated finishing equipment. This role requires excellent technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage production schedules while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain roll-to-roll large-format digital printers.
- Prepare print files and ensure correct media, colour profiles, and printer settings are used.
- Produce high-quality printed graphics for signage, vehicle branding, retail displays, wall graphics, banners, and promotional materials.
- Operate vinyl cutting machines for decals, lettering, and contour-cut graphics.
- Laminate printed media using hot and cold laminators.
- Weed, trim, mount, and finish printed products to customer specifications.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of all print and finishing equipment.
- Troubleshoot print quality issues, equipment faults, and production problems.
- Monitor stock levels of media, inks, laminates, vinyls, and consumables.
- Ensure jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and within production deadlines.
- Perform quality control inspections throughout the production process.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised production environment.
- Train and mentor junior print operators where required.
- Liaise with designers, sales staff, and installers to ensure production requirements are met.
- Follow company health and safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in large-format digital printing.
- Proven experience operating roll-to-roll printers (HP, Epson, Mimaki, Roland, Canon, EFI, Agfa, or similar).
- Experience operating vinyl cutting equipment (Graphtec, Summa, Roland, Mimaki, or similar).
- Experience with hot and cold laminating equipment.
- Strong understanding of different print media including:
- Self-adhesive vinyl
- Banner material
- Canvas
- Wallpaper
- Window films
- Fabric
- Synthetic papers
- Knowledge of colour management and print quality standards.
- Good understanding of artwork preparation and production workflows.
- Ability to read job tickets and interpret production specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of lifting media rolls and standing for extended periods.
