Job Overview:
The Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen and plays a vital role in assisting senior chefs with the preparation of ingredients and execution of dishes. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in the culinary industry, as it provides hands-on experience in various aspects of kitchen operations. The Commis Chef works under the supervision of the Chef de Partie to ensure that all assigned tasks are completed efficiently and to the restaurant’s standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation:
- Assist in preparing ingredients for dishes, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning.
- Execute basic cooking tasks such as grilling, frying, and boiling as directed by senior chefs.
- Prepare and assemble dishes during service, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Follow recipes and instructions to maintain the high standard of food preparation.
- Mise en Place:
- Set up the station with all necessary ingredients, utensils, and equipment before the start of service.
- Ensure all ingredients are fresh, properly stored, and correctly labeled.
- Replenish and clean the station throughout service to maintain efficiency.
- Support for Senior Chefs:
- Assist the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and other senior chefs in their respective tasks.
- Carry out instructions from senior chefs and help with plating dishes.
- Ensure that orders are prepared and sent out in a timely manner.
- Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, particularly in your assigned station.
- Assist with the cleaning of kitchen equipment, workspaces, and utensils as needed.
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards to ensure compliance with health regulations.
- Stock Management:
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of ingredients in your station.
- Inform senior chefs of any shortages or issues with stock.
- Assist in receiving, checking, and properly storing kitchen deliveries.
- Learning & Development:
- Take an active role in learning new cooking techniques and recipes.
- Be open to feedback from senior chefs and continuously improve skills.
- Participate in training sessions or workshops as required by the restaurant.

- Basic understanding of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and hygiene practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Culinary diploma or certification from a recognized institution (preferred but not mandatory).
- Previous kitchen experience (preferred but not essential).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
- Capable of lifting heavy objects such as pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
