Technical Sales & Mechanical Engineer

Ceramic Anilox Engravers (CAE) is a specialist manufacturer of precision ceramic Anilox Rollers and Sleeves, supplying customers locally and internationally across the flexographic printing, gravure, offset and coating industries.
We are looking for a technically minded Junior Sales Mechanical Engineer to join our team in a unique hybrid role combining hands-on mechanical engineering, manufacturing support and technical sales.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to remain involved in practical engineering while developing the commercial and customer-facing skills required for a career in technical sales.
The Role:
This is not a traditional sales position.
You will split your time between on-site mechanical engineering and technical sales, working closely with our manufacturing team as well as customers to understand technical requirements, solve problems and deliver precision-engineered solutions.
You will gain exposure to the complete journey of an Anilox Roller or Sleeve — from understanding customer and application requirements through to manufacturing, refurbishment, inspection and final delivery.
Technical Sales & Customer Engagement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers.
- Follow up on company-generated leads and develop new business opportunities.
- Visit customer sites to understand their equipment, production processes and technical requirements.
- Engage with customers to understand their printing, coating and manufacturing requirements.
- Recommend appropriate Anilox Roller and Sleeve solutions based on customer requirements.
- Work with customers to understand technical specifications and application requirements.
- Assist customers throughout the sales process.
- Provide technical product information and support.
- Identify opportunities to grow existing customer accounts.
- Communicate customer requirements accurately to the manufacturing and technical teams.
- Willingness to travel for customer visits and on-site engineering work as required.
Hands-On Mechanical Engineering
- Provide on-site mechanical and technical support to team.
- Support quality control and ensure work is completed to the required technical standards.
- Assist with the inspection, measurement and assessment of Anilox Rollers, Sleeves and associated mechanical components.
- Take accurate measurements using verniers, micrometres and other precision measuring equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and customer drawings.
- Assist with identifying mechanical issues and developing practical engineering solutions.
- Work closely with the production team to ensure customer specifications are correctly understood and achieved.
- Assist with technical assessments, inspections and troubleshooting.
- Gain practical knowledge of the manufacturing and refurbishment processes used to produce precision Anilox products.
- Support quality control and ensure work is completed to the required technical standards.
- Assist with technical site visits and customer installations or assessments where required.

Our products are used in demanding printing and coating applications, where precision-engineered components are essential to the production process.

You don't need previous Anilox experience. What matters is that you have a strong mechanical engineering foundation, practical manufacturing ability and the desire to learn a specialised and technically focused industry.
Education:
- Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Matric with Maths
Experience & Skills Required:
- Mechanical engineering and/or manufacturing experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD – ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Experience in Project Management.
- 2D & 3D Modelling.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills.
- Collaboration skills.
- Q.C. Skills – experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometres and verniers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Ability to focus and pay high attention to detail.
- Experience in technical sales or customer-facing engineering would be advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable engaging directly with customers and discussing technical requirements.
- Commercially minded, with an interest in developing technical sales and business development skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical, hands-on approach.
- Valid driver’s licence essential.
- Reliable vehicle required.
