Key responsibilities include:
- Plan and coordinate daily activities for children and teenagers.
- Supervise children, generally from toddlers through teenagers, depending on the cruise line.
- Organise games, sports, arts & crafts, STEM activities, parties, quizzes, karaoke and other entertainment.
- Coordinate teen-specific programmes and events.
- Lead and support the Youth Staff team.
- Ensure activities comply with the cruise line's safety and operating procedures.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and discipline.
- Communicate professionally with parents and guardians.
- Handle complaints, conflicts and behavioural issues diplomatically.
- Assist with embarkation, emergency procedures and muster drills.
- Maintain youth areas, equipment, supplies and activity materials.
- Keep attendance, incident and programme records.
- Work with Entertainment, Guest Services and other departments.
- Act as a positive role model for children and teenagers.
- Host activities and sometimes make announcements or use a microphone to engage large groups.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Child Development, or a closely related field.
- 1–3 years of experience working with youth in a professional setting, such as summer camps, schools, or hospitality.
- Valid CPR, First Aid, and STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) Basic Safety Training certificates.
- High energy, patience, and fluency in English. Multilingual skills (especially Spanish, French, or German) are a strong asset.
- Must pass a criminal background check and be physically/medically fit for extended shipboard contracts.
Pay: R24 000,00 - R30 000,00 per month
