MINE OVERSEER
Your duties will be as follows. However, you may be required to perform other duties that may be reasonably expected from time to time. Appointed in terms of sections 2.14.1 and 2.13.12 of the MHSA of 1996 to manage and co-ordinate the following:
- Mining process planning, preparing and breaking the predetermined blocks of ground, efficiently and safely.
- Delivering quality production as agreed.
- Review and introduce mining best practices to enhance performance efficiencies over long term.
- Negotiate with Engineering Department- source and supply determined material to operations.
- Alignment of operational performances both in stope and development to the overall
- Operational Area plans contribute to the effective management of the Operational Area.
The Mine Overseer therefore has the accountability to manage and plan for the development and provision of mining work practices, structures and services, which will contribute to the overall safety, health, and the sustained profitability of the Operational Area. Legal Regulation and duties not limited to but include the following:
1. Maintaining Health and Safety:
- Ensure that health and safety standards are adhered to and improved upon in the section.
- Communicate with line supervisors and management to enhance safety awareness and the achievement of the company’s safety objectives.
- Inspect all workings and machinery as frequently a s necessary in the interest of health and safety to ensure compliance with legal requirements and to identify and evaluate hazards.
- Manage risks effectively to minimize impact.
- Ensure relevant emergency procedures and equipment are maintained and that the implementation and knowledge of the use thereof is satisfactory.
- Give appropriate instructions and supervision to the line management including service departments to safeguard people, equipment, material, and the environment against damage, injury, or loss.
- Monitor safety statistics to measure performance against objectives
- Follow up that work is done to rectify sub-standards and deviations from the norm.
- Promote good housekeeping as central to a safe and production section.
- Inspect workings on odd shifts (early, late and night) to ensure adherence to legal requirements.
2. Manage the operation of the section:
- Allocate work plans to Operation Supervisors.
- Prepare operation plans and schedules
- Continuously liaise with the Operations Manager on operations.
- Ensure that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by the operations supervisors and are implemented.
- Obtain technical advice on operations.
- Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards.
- Control shift rosters, sickness implications, training and leave schedules to ensure the section is adequately resourced.
- Initiate and monitor operations improvement projects.
- Ensure planned daily, weekly and monthly production targets are achieved.
3. Liaise with departments:
- Direct Area resource specialists for technical support requirements.
- Assist during breakdowns or emergencies to co-ordinate support from other disciplines.
- Liaison with in-stope Shift Supervisors to ensure that the stope capital assets are well maintained.
- Encourage co-operation and teamwork between in-stope logistics and operations.
- Liaison with logistics to ensure adequate material availability.
- Liaison with the HR/Labour planning.
- Support overall Business Planning.
- Investigating incidents/accidents and property damage:
- Investigate and report any incidents/injuries.
- Take pro-active preventative and corrective action.
- Follow the prescribed procedural requirements for the investigation and completion of accident/incident report.
- Follow up on preventative action taken and deal with non-adherence to instructions.
- Completion of legal reports and assisting with investigations for formal enquiries.
- Compliance with the Health and Safety training within the section.
4. Maintaining good employee relations:
- Effective two-way open communication with team and between all sections/disciplines within the Operation based on mutual trust and mutual respect.
- Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service suppliers.
- Ensure that employees work in safe environment by ensuring that the Shift Supervisors remained focused on their core role responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with Engineering and Shift Supervisors.
- Ensure that the employees have clear work expectations and plans from day to day and week to week.
- Interview potential recruits.
- Identify ideas to increase motivation.
- Ensure that work is fairly allocated.
- Maintaining sound industrial relations:
- Hold disciplinary and grievances inquiries.
- Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications.
- Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Industrial Relations.
- Fairly manage cultural diversity.
- Keep abreast of industrial relations trends and legislation.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: Up to R120 000,00 per month
