Athletics Academy Assistant Coach (Sprints & Hurdles)
In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following position within the TuksSport High School Athletics Academy.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary performance team under the leadership of the Head Coach (Sprints & Hurdles) and Academy Technical Lead, contributing to the development of talented high school-aged athletes within one of South Africa's leading high-performance athletics programmes.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:

Assist in implementing the TuksAthletics Academy coaching philosophy and long-term athlete development (LTAD) pathway for sprint and hurdles athletes.

Deliver high-quality daily coaching sessions that are developmentally appropriate, progressive and aligned with the Academy's annual performance plan.

Assist in planning, implementing and evaluating seasonal training, competition, recovery and athlete development programmes.

Contribute to building a high-performance training environment that promotes both athletic and personal excellence.

Support the planning and implementation of athlete talent identification, selection and recruitment initiatives.

Assist with competition planning, travel logistics and athlete management before, during and after competitions.

Work collaboratively with the Head Coach, Technical Lead, Sport Scientists, Strength & Conditioning staff, medical personnel and other support services to optimise athlete performance.

Monitor athlete attendance, training loads, progression and performance, maintaining accurate training and performance records.

Provide regular feedback and reports on athlete development and performance.

Promote athlete wellbeing, safeguarding, discipline and positive sporting values in accordance with University and TuksSport High School policies.

Support athletes' academic development and personal growth within the TuksSport High School environment.

Assist with coaching clinics, camps, outreach programmes and promotional activities.

Perform administrative duties associated with the effective operation of the Athletics Academy.
Minimum requirements:
-
Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
-
ASA Level I Coach – Sprints & Hurdles
-
Safeguarding Awareness Certificate
-
Minimum three (3) years' athletics coaching experience
-
Minimum three (3) years' experience coaching school-aged or developing athletes
Requirements to be obtained prior to appointment:

Valid driver's licence
-
First Aid Level 1 Certificate
-
Criminal Record Clearance
-
Child Protection and Sexual Offenders Register Clearance
-
Current registration/accreditation with Athletics South Africa (ASA)
Desirable requirements:
-
NQF Level 5 qualification or higher
-
Diploma or Degree in Coaching, Sport Science, Human Movement Science or related field

ASA Level II Sprints & Hurdles
-
World Athletics Level I Coaching Qualification
-
Five (5) years' coaching experience within a school, club or academy environment
-
Experience working within a multidisciplinary high-performance programme

Additional information
The successful candidate will be required to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and public holidays, and travel to competitions and training camps when required.
