Duties & Responsibilities

Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities:
1. TRUCK MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE
- Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on trucks, ensuring all mechnical and eletrical systems function optimally
- Diagnose and repaird mechanical issues, including engine fialures, transmission problems, braking system malfunctions, and suspension faults.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults such as wiring, lighting, sensors, battery systems, and control modules.
- Conduct in-depth preventitive maintenance checks to identify and resolve potential failures before they lead to breakdowns.
- Install, calibrate, and test new parts and systems, including braking systems, fuel injection components and exhaust systems.
- Use advanced diagnostic tools, scanning software, and mechanical testing methods to identify faults accurately.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanicals and electrical system failures efficiently, ensuring timely resolution.
- Perform detailed root-cause analysis to prevent recurring issues and develop proactive maintenance strategies
- Conduct road tests and operational simulations to validate repairs and performance improvements
- Provide technical feedback and recommendations on design flaws or recurrig issues affecting the fleet
- Assist in emergency roadside repairs and on-call breakdown support when required.
- Track and request necessary spare parts and tools to ensure uninterrupted maintenance work.
2. RECORD-KEEPING AND REPORTING
- Maintain detailed service logs for all trucks, ensuring accurate records of maintenance history, parts replacements, and labor costs.
- Document work completed on each vehicle, including the diagnosis process, parts used, and repaird techniques applied.
- Ensure real-time updates of work orders in the maintenance management system.
- Prepare reports on fleet performance, highlighting frequent breakdown causes and recommending imrpovements.
3. COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY
- Ensure all work adheres to manufacturer specifications and company policies
- Ensure all truck repairs comply with safety regulations, transport industry standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following workplace safety policies and proper handling of tools and equipment.
- Inspect and maintain all emergency and safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, emergency brakes and warning signals
- Conduct pre-maintenance and post-maintenace safety checks on vehicles to ensure full compliance.
4. TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND TRAINING
- Assist drivers and operational personnel in understanding basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance measures.
- Participate in continuous learning to stay updated with evolving truch technologies
- Support fleet operations by offering expert guidance on vehicle capabilities, performance optimization and maintenance best practises.
The incumbent must be a Qualified Diesel Mechanic or have comprehensive mechanical knowledge and have a code EC license
