Laser Welder / Laser Welding Technician – Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing
Job Objective
Seeking an experienced Laser Welder with hands-on experience in precision laser welding, preferably within lithium-ion battery, battery pack, energy storage, automotive, electronics, or other high-precision manufacturing environments.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience operating and setting up laser welding equipment, preferably fiber, Nd:YAG, or similar industrial laser systems.
- Experience welding thin-gauge metals such as nickel, copper, aluminium, stainless steel, or similar materials.
- Experience with precision welding of battery cells, battery tabs, busbars, terminals, battery modules, or battery packs is highly advantageous.
- Ability to set and adjust welding parameters including:
- Laser power
- Pulse duration/frequency
- Welding speed
- Focus/spot size
- Shielding gas
- Beam alignment
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
- Experience using microscopes, cameras, gauges, or other inspection equipment for precision welding.
- Ability to identify and correct welding defects such as:
- Porosity
- Cracking
- Burn-through
- Incomplete fusion
- Excessive spatter
- Misalignment
- Weak or inconsistent welds
- Experience performing machine setup, tooling changes, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety, particularly laser safety and electrical/chemical hazards associated with lithium-ion batteries.
- Good understanding of quality-control procedures and production documentation.
- Ability to work accurately in a high-volume, precision manufacturing environment.

Education & Experience
- Technical qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience in welding, manufacturing, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5+ years of industrial welding or laser-welding experience preferred.
- Direct lithium-ion battery experience is highly desirable but should not be mandatory if the candidate has strong precision laser-welding experience.
Ideal Candidate
A strong candidate would be a Laser Welding Technician with 3+ years of industrial laser-welding experience, preferably with direct experience welding lithium-ion battery cells, tabs, busbars, modules, or packs, and who can independently set up equipment, optimise welding parameters, troubleshoot defects, and maintain consistent weld quality in a production environment.
Pay: R12 000,00 - R15 000,00 per month
