Eilandia Farms is a leading and diversified agricultural business with operations spanning wine grapes, table grapes, stone fruit, citrus, vegetables and cattle. The business is seeking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to join its Finance Department.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Financial Manager and will provide accounting and financial administrative support across a broad range of financial functions. The role includes processing financial transactions, performing reconciliations, preparing statutory submissions, assisting with
month-end procedures and providing general accounting support to the Financial Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process journals and maintain the general ledger.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Perform creditor and debtor reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit VAT, EMP201 and other statutory returns.
- Assist with month-end accounting procedures.
- Assist with the preparation of year-end audit files and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with auditors, SARS and other external stakeholders where required.
- Prepare supporting documentation for financing applications.
- Maintain inter-company loan reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.
- Perform general accounting and financial administrative duties as required by the Financial Manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Financial Accounting or Financial Management will be advantageous.
- Approximately 3 years' relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably within a commercial, manufacturing or agricultural environment.
- Registration with SAIPA, or eligibility to register, will be advantageous.
- Practical knowledge of general ledger processing, reconciliations, statutory submissions and month-end accounting procedures.
- Working knowledge of VAT and other statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience working with Sage Pastel or a similar accounting system.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
- Good communication skills (English and Afrikaans; written and verbal).
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
PLEASE NOTE:
- The successful candidate will be required to commute daily to the Le Chasseur area between Robertson and Worcester. Applicants should ensure that they have reliable own transport and are able to commute to the workplace on a daily basis.
