POSITION: FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE TECHNOLOGIST
About the Position:
We are looking for a FOOD SAFETY AND HYGIENE TECHNOLOGIST to support our FOOD SAFETY DEPARTMENT. You will be required to use your knowledge to develop ways to process, preserve, package and store food safely, according to industry and government specifications and regulations.
Working Conditions:
· Contract type: 6 Months Fixed-Term Contract
· Number of positions: One (1)
· Location of position: Durban, Kwa-Zulu-Natal
The position will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Training employees on proper food handling techniques and food safety policies and procedures
- Maintaining proper documentation of all food safety procedures
- Writing food safety protocols
- Understanding and implementing all food safety laws, based on FSSC22000, GFSI & FSA
- Evaluating the quality of food products brought into the establishment.
- Conducting internal food safety audits
- Responding to any food safety-related complaints from staff or customers
- Conduct monthly maintenance audits and issue job cards based on non-conformances.
- Conduct/Collect and submit micro samples as per the micro schedule.
- Update Food safety policies and procedures as required.
- Maintain the Pest control file and non-conformances raised.
- Conduct food safety meetings monthly with the food safety team. Follow the hygiene code.
- Update and maintain supplier files and conduct supplier audits based on risk assessment.
- Conduct mock recalls on Ingredients, packaging, and finished goods.
- Manage all cleaners on the day shift and the night shift.
- Update and maintain all cleaning policies, procedures, and checklists.
- Conduct daily verification on cleaning.
- Manage and control the chemical and consumable usage.
- To provide supervision, conduct competency assessments and deliver training.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the below requirements:
· Grade 12
· Bachelor’s degree in food science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Health, or related field
· 3 years of working experience as a Food Safety Technologist
· Experience in an FMCG environment will be an added advantage
· HACCP certification
· Must be computer literate.
· Practical knowledge and experience in FSSC22000 implementation
