The Role
JOB PURPOSE:
To support data-driven decision-making across the logistics value chain by analysing operational data, identifying trends, and delivering actionable insights through reports and dashboards. The BI Analyst bridges the gap between logistics operations and data systems, enabling improvements in delivery performance, stock management, route optimisation, and overall supply chain efficiency. Takes ownership of business problems, translates them into analytical questions, creates custom dashboards, and recommends data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities:
Business Requirements Gathering
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into detailed BI requirements.
- Document functional and non-functional requirements for BI solutions.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect, process, and analyze operational data from WMS, TMS, ERP, and other logistics systems.
- Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies to provide actionable insights for logistics performance.
- Develop and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports for internal teams.
KPI Tracking & Dashboard Development
- Define, track, and monitor key logistics KPIs such as OTIF, delivery delays, and inventory levels.
- Create visually compelling and interactive dashboards to support decision-making.
Process Mapping & Continuous Improvement
- Map existing logistics processes and identify areas for efficiency improvement.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to optimize operations and reduce costs.
Solution Scoping & Functional Specifications
- Collaborate with IT and business teams to define technical and functional specifications for BI solutions.
- Support the implementation and validation of BI tools, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Present insights, reports, and recommendations to business users and leadership teams.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings to ensure BI solutions meet business needs.
Data Quality & Assurance
- Validate, cleanse, and reconcile data from multiple logistics systems to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Perform regular audits to detect and resolve data errors or inconsistencies.
- Maintain data integrity metrics and monitor downstream impact on decision-making.
Issue Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
- Investigate operational or reporting issues and identify root causes.
- Recommend solutions to prevent recurring issues and improve system reliability.
Ad-hoc Analysis & Strategic Insights
- Conduct deep-dive analyses to answer complex business questions.
- Provide recommendations to support strategic initiatives in logistics and supply chain optimization.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with logistics, operations, IT, and finance teams to enable data-driven decisions.
- Act as the bridge between operational needs and BI capabilities.
Innovation & Continuous Learning
- Stay up-to-date with BI tools, analytics techniques, and supply chain trends.
- Proactively propose enhancements or new analytics capabilities to improve business outcomes.
Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements (Experience & Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Information Technology or related field essential
- Honours degree in a related field preferred
- Certifications in BI or analytics tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, SQL) Essential
- Training in supply chain systems (e.g. WMS, TMS, ERP)
- 2-5 years’ experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or reporting role.
Required Knowledge:
- Understanding of both business, operations and supply chain systems
- Ability to read and interpret reports, dashboards, and KPIs
