A well established casket , furniture and wood product manufacturing company seeks to employ the services of a Wood Furniture and Cabinet Maker;
- Craft custom furniture pieces based on client specifications
- Repair and restore furniture
- Select and prepare materials such as wood, metal, and fabric
- Utilize hand tools and power tools to cut, sand, and assemble furniture
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Finish furniture with stains, paints, and varnishes
- Collaborate with designers and clients to develop design ideas
- Ensure quality control standards are met throughout the production process
- Maintain and organize tools and workspace
- Source and order materials as needed through the procurement department
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and technique
- Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines
- Review product specifications
- Reviewing drawings and choosing appropriate materials, such as the correct type of timber, veneer or synthetic board
- Using computer-aided design programs to perform calculations and refine drawings
- Cutting and joining wood to make parts according to the plans
- Assembling cabinets and furniture from shaped components
- Making cabinetry and furniture pieces according to specifications, including hinges, locks and handles
- Refining or enhancing existing furniture by adding intricate details.
- Review drawings and blueprints to determine which materials and installation approach to use
- Use power tools to cut and prepare timber and assemble wood to form structures as required
- Create furniture framework, skirting boards and other
- Assemble and install prefabricated furniture structures
- Install fixtures and hardware such as handles, locks, insulating material or underlay
- Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task.
- Cutting resources down to size, as needed.
- Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time.
- Creating standard and custom components of cabinets.
- Gathering the elements of each cabinet and assembling the final product.
- Applying sealant, varnish, and paint to cabinets, if required.
- Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied.
- Wearing the requisite uniform and taking necessary precautions to remain safe.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials
- Assemble and install wooden structures and fixtures
- Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely
- Finish and polish surfaces to required standards
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards
- Collaborate with team members and clients
- Manage materials and supplies for production in department
- Design and construct custom furniture pieces.
- Select and prepare materials for each project.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely and effectively.
- Collaborate with clients and designers to meet specifications.
- Ensure all products meet quality and safety standards.
- Stay updated on new materials, tools, and techniques.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials
- Install structures and fixtures such as , cabinets, and molding
- Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
- Estimate materials and time required for projects
Educational & Job requirements
- Matric, Grade12
- Qualification or certification in the relevant field will be advantageous.
- Experience as a Cabinet , furniture maker
- Good arithmetic skills.
- Excellent teamwork and customer service skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines .
- Physical fitness, including ease of movement and the capacity to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques and joinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
- Attention to detail and high standards of craftsmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of furniture finishing and upholstery is a plus.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to job sites
- Basic math skills for measuring and estimating
