CGI, Creative Graphics International (CGI), a world leader in specialized branding solutions for commercial & automotive purposes is looking for an Ink Lab Supervisor to join their dynamic team at their Ottery Plant in Cape Town, S A.
The incumbent will be responsible for the supervision and supply of ink & varnish systems to the process, which complies to the production schedule, is qualified and fit for purpose and based on customer requirements. This position is also responsible for the ordering of raw material and the appropriate storage there-of.
Key Performance Areas
Varnish / Ink ordering & manufacture:
> Ordering components and manufacture to support plant requirements.
>Matched ink colors to color swatch or customer master, ensure batch to batch consistency.
> Batch traceability to be maintained.
> Ensure SHEQ policies and procedures are followed during manufacture of inks and varnishes
> Track and review delivery performance and quality stats.
> Investigate complaints. Record and make analysis of results of investigations.
Flammable store control:
> Daily stock controls
> Update and maintain store register.
> Ensure SHEQ policies and procedures are followed
> Replenish KANBAN inks: ensure correct balance between stock and availability.
> Ensure all MSDS’s are available.
Project work:
> Participate and advise regarding ink and varnish capabilities during Feasibility participation.
> New color matching: document formula, determine & report turnaround time.
> Support in PMFEA analysis, ensure control plans match Ink Lab activity.
> Drafting/review of department documents.
> Work closely with R&D Department
Supplier support:
>Verify ink color through receiving inspection testing. Ensure that supplier maintains parameters that satisfy CGI requirements
> Communicate with supplier on quality and delivery requirements.
Corrective Action:
> Raise Supplier Problem Reports and forward to suppliers where quality or delivery requirements are not met.
R&D:
> Conduct research to find alternative products (more durable and cost effective).
> Continual improvement activities
> Research alternatives to environmentally hazardous materials.
> Work closely with R&D department head.
Laboratory equipment:
> Ensure it is maintained, stored, safeguarded and calibrated correctly.
> Ensure records are maintained to customer requirements.
> Ensure activities are correctly described and documented.
SHEQ:
> Ensure activities are conducted in a safe manner to prevent injuries and pollution / spills.
> SHEQ policies and procedures are strictly adhered to.
> Ensure 5S is maintained.
Supervision:
> Supervise staff of the Ink Lab and coordinate activities to ensure smooth functioning of the department.
> Plan resources to ensure all requirements are met.
>Training and development of Ink Lab staff.
> Report on the performance of the Ink Lab to manager.
> Ensure that discipline is maintained by subordinates in the Ink Lab.
> Manage subordinates in accordance with pre-determined criteria / objectives and targets.

Education & Experience
> Matric
> MS Office, Excel & Outlook - intermediate.
> Solid chemistry understanding.
> Solid understanding and expertise in colour management within the printing industry
> Solid Colour matching experience with inks for screen printing or similar industry advantages.
> Core tools: MSA
> Knowledge of best practices for ink and varnish manufacture.
> Solid understanding of screen print process and related equipment advantages

> Organized, self motivated, target driven, self disciplined, flexible to work outside normal working hours, able to travel & attention to detail.
Special Requirements
> The employee will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull and work a flexible schedule.
> Shift work and overtime on short notices.
