THE ORGANISATION
Operated by AMANDLA, the Alexandra Development Precinct (“DLab”) consists of several components, and multiple partners, that play a complementary role in creating the platform for multi-sector collaboration, offering sustainable and holistic support for young people, their families and their communities. Precinct Collaboration is driven through a Collective Impact approach.
JOB SCOPE
To address the massive challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment South Africa needs significant and sustainable change at a local economic level. A combination of vision, creativity, practical business acumen, and an understanding of deep systemic change is required to make this happen.
The Alexandra DLAB Local Economic Development (LED) Officer will support the ILED Manager and Learning and development coordinator to implement a trail-blazing initiative aimed at building a self-reliant and vibrant township economy. Located within an ecosystem of youth and community development, the local economic development product will drive a community based process of change with a focus on increasing the flow of money flowing into local economies, building small, micro and medium size enterprises, creating decent work, and stimulating local spend.
The role includes core tasks across the following:
1. Advertising and sharing ILED offerings (Business incubation Programmes, Skills training, procurement opportunities)
2. Sourcing of Mentors, Partnerships and Entrepreneurs
3. On boarding Incubates and collecting relevant documents
4. Tracking project costs in order to meet budge
5. Assist ILED team in the preparation of workshops and closing events for various business Incubation.
CORE COMPETENCIES, ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS and PREFERENCES
Educational:
- Grade 12 (required)
- Degree or National Diploma in Business Management and or Project Management (Preferred)
Experience and Skills:
- Live in or near Alexandra and have an in depth understanding of the community.
- 1-3 years work experience in Local Economic Development.
- Experience with active community engagement and dialogue.
- Passion for Local Economic Development and changing the status quo.
- Code B driver’s license.
- Strong computer literacy and MS Word package skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Proficiency in any other South African languages.
- Documentation management and ability to use project management tools.

- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining relationships
