Medwell SA, provides comprehensive healthcare services across South Africa, specialising in home nursing, elderly care, palliative care, frail care, and assisted living solutions.
We are looking to employ a Healthcare Manager to manage & coordinate the overall holistic healthcare and wellness of the residents of Great Oaks Retirement Village (Constantia) in line with the Service Level Agreement and to ensure compliance with relevant local and national legislation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Co-ordination, control of and assist with all services offered in the care unit, assisted living units and home based care services in the village including Health Screen review's and Annual Re-assessments.
- Quality control of nursing care delivered by all nursing staff working in the unit, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Manager and Clinical Facilitator
- Ensure person-centered care is delivered consistently.
- Oversee care planning, assessments, and reviews for all residents.
- Manage and supervise the village wellness clinic and managed home based care services in collaboration with the Primary Healthcare sister.
- Maintain positive relationships with residents' families and representatives.
- Liaison with the multi-disciplinary team onsite in terms of individual care planning for the residents and goal setting.
- Manage all nursing staff on shift and oversee their work.
- Ensure staff are making use of lifting and handling devices to minimise manual handling of the residents.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, and company policies.
- Promote best practices in dementia care.
- Manage the maintenance and repairs of the care unit and equipment through supervision of the use of equipment.
- Instructions for repairs to be communicated in coordination with executive management.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response plans.
- Control over the procurement and use of medication, medical supplies, and stock ensuring all staff comply with recording usage and stock levels.
- Oversee active aging programmes with the Occupational therapist appointed.
- Liaise with onsite Management team as and when needed and attend meetings as required.
- Ensure the vision of Great Oaks is communicated to all staff and is integrated into the day to day culture.
- Establish a Resident's Committee for the care unit with the assistance of the Great Oaks management team.
- Attend monthly meetings and report on incidents and any other relevant issues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Degree-qualified Registered Nurse.
- An additional qualification in Nursing Administration will be advantageous.
- A minimum of three years' experience in a managerial position within the healthcare industry.
- Experience in the management of a memory care and frail care facility (experience in the home-care industry will be beneficial).
- Knowledge and experience in implementing and ensuring a person-centred care approach to provide a homely environment for persons living with dementia.
- Experience with the requirements of the Older Persons Act (Act 13 of 2006), as well as the ability to ensure compliance with the Mental Health Care Act and all relevant requirements applicable to a facility registered in terms of the Act.
- Knowledge of and practical experience in applying the professional requirements and procedures as stipulated in the Scope of Practice of the South African Nursing Council.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to exercise appropriate authority while maintaining open communication and an approachable management style.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, healthcare professionals, and staff.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, resident-centred care and promoting a culture of dignity, respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.
