About the Role
NOTE: If you are not yet certified, but are willing to go through the process to become certified, Canopy Collective will cover the full costs of your certification process, terms- and conditions-dependent.
As a Motorcycle Riding Instructor, you will be responsible for training learners through both classroom-based and practical motorcycle instruction.
You will coach individuals with varying levels of riding experience and help prepare them for:
- Motorcycle learner's licence examinations
- Practical K53 Code A/A1 motorcycle licence tests
- Safe on-road riding
- Defensive riding techniques
- Professional delivery rider standards
- Workplace readiness
This role combines technical riding knowledge with coaching, mentorship and a genuine passion for developing people.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical motorcycle riding lessons (largely yard-based)
- Teach K53 motorcycle theory
- Prepare learners for learner's licence and licence testing
- Conduct practical rider assessments
- Demonstrate safe riding techniques
- Assist with rider safety workshops
- Complete learner assessments and training documentation
- Support learners throughout their training journey
- Promote a positive safety culture
- Ensure motorcycles and training equipment are maintained and roadworthy
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should:
- Have a valid South African Motorcycle Licence - Code A (also having a Code B license is beneficial)
- Have been actively riding a motorcycle for at least three (3) years
- Have a clear criminal record
- Have excellent riding ability and road awareness
- Have strong communication skills
- Have a passion for teaching and mentoring others
- Be able to maintain professional presentation and conduct
- Have a good command of English (additional South African languages will be advantageous)
- Have the ability to remain calm and patient under pressure
Advantageous
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Certified motorcycle riding instructor qualification
- Previous motorcycle training experience
- K53 coaching experience
- Delivery rider experience
- Road safety training experience
- First aid certification
- Experience working with youth development programmes

Ability to commute/relocate:
