Our Technology Research Center helps the world’s leading energy, power, and industrial companies solve their most critical surface engineering-related problems, improve coating and welding techniques, and evaluate material performance.
Position Title & Overview
The Team Leader will ensure all health, safety, environmental, and quality programs and policies for IGS are adhered to. This individual will be responsible for, and actively manages IGS field services personnel and communications with client while building and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Provides feedback to IGS management team for corporate strategic initiatives related to customer service, safety, quality, project incentives and technical training needs. Supports IGS strategic growth objectives through execution of quality projects that directly impact the scalability and efficacy of IGS.Acts as a company liaison with the project client on all matters related to safety, timeline, identification of additional work and upsell opportunities
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide high quality customer service resulting in a 100% customer satisfaction rating from external customers on accuracy, timeliness, courtesy and safety measures on an ongoing basis. This includes efficient and effective client interaction on site as well as from the office with IGS-Africa operations personnel.
- Manage and coordinate site and shop projects as needed.
- Drive operations teams to focus on discovery scope during project execution
- Ensure performance evaluations are complete for each project and corrective actions are taken to maximize operational efficiency when needed
- Continue to build IGS culture and leading by IGS Values
- Coordinate lessons learned meetings and post job reports
- Continuously Build technician capacity and skills levels to support local and international requirements
- Aligning IGS-Africa with IGS Corporate practices and processes
- Ensure field operations workforce is trained and development plans implemented to continuously build qualified capacity.
- Work with RoW and Africa Operations Manager, Business Development and Global Operations to forecast workforce resource needs and implement plans to ensure capacity levels are sufficient to meet project demands
- Accountable for ensuring that site operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with all IGS and customer specific safety standards and procedures
- Utilizes interface occasions to provide the customer with information regarding IGS’s value, differentiation and potential upsell opportunities, networks with customers to identify future opportunities on the current project as well as other projects both within and outside their fleet
- Ensure profitable project execution through effective planning, efficient use of consumable resources, and minimizing waste
- Promote consistent attention to project quality, profitability, and a “spend IGS’ money as if it was your own” mentality
- Understands how losses in efficiency, consumable usage, and waste effect gross margin of the project and adversely affect project bonus payments
- Manages project work flow through project and site managers to gain both effectiveness and efficiency
- Coaches and mentors operations personnel as necessary
- Ensure Team Leaders are performing their duties effectively and in accordance with the Team Leader job description.

- Monitors Team Performance to ensure end of project evaluations are completed accurately and fairly by the Team Leaders at the end of the project
- Provide technical input and advice regarding the material and work scope for all IGS product and service lines on a case by case basis. Ensure that all application process and material usage is consistent with prescribed use.
- Visit jobsites and communicate frequently to project personnel during project execution to drive accountability. Share project updates with Sales and/or the strategic leadership team
- Establish and audit policies for maintenance, project execution, and Standard Operating Procedures
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Problem solving and trouble shooting.

- Project management skills to coordinate, organize, plan, and execute complex industrial projects

Effort/Working Conditions:
- Job is performed in a challenging environment in various client facilities which includes but are not limited to refineries, paper mills, power plants and mining sites in South Africa, other African countries and potentially outside of Africa in support of other Business Units or regions
- Difficult working conditions characterized by long hours with 12 hour+ shifts
- Work on project sites is often performed in full personal protective equipment
- Must be physically able to move in and out of confined spaces and work on heights, lift up to 22 kg, climb ladders and stairs
- 3 months of extensive travel into region, most projects are 2-6 Weeks in duration but strategic objectives will dictate the amount of travel
Minimum requirements:
- 5 - 10 years’ progressive responsibility in operations management or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years’ progressive responsibility in site responsibility and on-site management will be advantageous.
- 10+ year’s hand-on management of craftsmen (proven track record in effectively managing small and medium sized projects preferred).
- Experience in Oil & Gas, Metals & Mining and Power industries will be advantageous.
- Must be willing and able to travel including international travel.
