Role purpose
The Data Scientist provides specialist data science expertise within Eskom Group IT’s Business Solution and Development Services (BSDS). The role sets direction for data science across the organisation, develops the underlying data science building blocks and frameworks, and applies advanced analytical techniques to Eskom’s large operational and enterprise data sets.
Working within the project environment, the resource designs and implements data strategies and standards, contributes to the architecture landscape, and ensures that data science work is compliant with applicable data-protection and classification requirements — ultimately helping Eskom deliver IT solutions faster and become ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Key responsibilities
- Set direction for data science, including analysis, model design and implementation across Eskom Group IT.
- Develop and evolve data science building blocks, frameworks and the supporting architecture landscape.
- Design and implement data strategies and standards, including roadmapping and journey mapping.
- Apply data science techniques (e.g. summarisation, forecasting and predictive analysis) to large utility data sets.
- Ensure data science practices comply with POPIA and data classification requirements.
