Senior Technologist/ Senior Lab Technician
- A Technical Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning/Architecture/Urban Design/Surveying/Quantity Surveying/Engineering/Building Technology/Landscape Design is a prerequisite.
- Five years’ Experience in Laboratory/Studio work or similar lab/studio environment.
- Technical Registration or status and or eligibility for such registration to the planning body of the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA); or Technician/Technical membership of the South African Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is a prerequisite.
Lab Technician
- A Technical Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning/Architecture/Urban Design/Surveying/Quantity Surveying/Engineering/Building Technology/Landscape Design is a prerequisite.
- Five years’ Experience, two years must in Laboratory/Studio work or similar lab/studio environment.
- Technical Registration or status and or eligibility for such registration to the planning body of the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP); or Technical/Technologist registration membership of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA); or Technician/Technical membership of the South African Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is a prerequisite.
Duties:
- Supervising junior lab staff members.
- Supervising and managing practicals for Year 1 to Year 4 students.
- Facilitating, supervising and managing practicals for postgraduate students and staff projects.
- Filing and compiling students’ practical portfolios.
- Teaching studio related practical modules.
- Executing applied and technical knowledge of applicable land use planning statutes, regulations, policies, standards, processes and best practices.
- Ensuring professional management of the laboratories and planning studios.
- Maintaining inventories of equipment in the laboratories, and department’s budget on practicals.
- Ensuring proper upkeep of the drawing studios and laboratory spaces.
- Ensuring compliance with security, health, and safety standards in the laboratories.
- Ensuring that the highest standards of maintaining the laboratories are followed and met by students and lecturers as they conduct classes in line with the requirements of SACPLAN.
- Keeping an up-to-date departmental assets register, and ensuring that all the practical drawing studios are equipped, clean, and setup with enough materials for students to use.
- Any other duty as instructed by the Head of Department.
