PURPOSE
Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining storage and virtualization solutions within an organization. Work closely with the Storage and virtualization Level 1 support team and collaborate with other IT professionals to ensure the smooth operation of storage and virtualization systems.
KEY TASKS
The primary objective is to ensure zero missed service level agreement (SLA) conditions and responsible for managing service request tickets of low to high complexity. Other key objectives include providing a service to clients by proactively identifying and resolving technical incidents and problems.
EDUCATION

School
Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
Professional / Tertiary
Further qualification (at least NQF level 5) – Advanced Diploma, Degree, or relevant qualification in IT/Computing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum 3 (three) years of practical experience in the Storage and virtualization field.
· Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· Strong understanding of storage and virtualization technologies, such as SAN, NAS, VMware, Hyper-V, etc.
· Familiarity with storage protocols and technologies, including Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, etc.
· Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery concepts and tools.
· Experience with storage and virtualization management tools and platforms.
· Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and configuration tasks.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot storage and virtualization issues.
· Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively in a team environment.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
· Relevant certifications (e.g., VMware Certified Professional) are a plus.
KEY TASKS
· Designing storage and virtualization solutions: You would assess business requirements and design storage and virtualization architectures that meet the organization's needs. This involves selecting appropriate hardware and software components, considering performance, scalability, and reliability.
· Implementing storage and virtualization systems: You would install and configure storage arrays, storage area networks (SANs), virtualization platforms, and associated software. You would ensure proper integration with existing infrastructure and perform necessary system configurations.
· Monitoring and performance tuning: You would monitor storage and virtualization systems to ensure optimal performance and resource utilization. This involves analysing system metrics, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing performance tuning techniques to enhance system efficiency.
· Troubleshooting and issue resolution: As a Level 2 engineer, you would investigate and resolve complex storage and virtualization-related issues escalated from Level 1 support. This includes troubleshooting hardware and software problems, analysing logs, and collaborating with vendors if needed.
· Capacity planning and scalability: You would assess current storage and virtualization capacities and plan for future growth. This involves estimating storage and computing requirements, recommending capacity upgrades, and implementing scaling strategies to accommodate business needs.
· Documentation and knowledge sharing: You would maintain accurate documentation of storage and virtualization configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. You would also share your knowledge and provide guidance to Level 1 support staff and other team members.
· Security and compliance: You would ensure storage and virtualization systems adhere to security best practices and comply with relevant regulations. This includes implementing access controls, encryption, backup, and recovery strategies, and participating in security audits and assessments.
· Collaboration and project participation: You would collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as network engineers, system administrators, and application developers, to support IT projects and initiatives. You would provide input on storage and virtualization requirements and assist in the implementation of related components.

· Ensure that short-, medium- and long-term operational strategies are implemented in line with the growth objectives and profitability of the business.
· Proactively manage all risks in the environment and ensure appropriate and timeous escalation of risks and issues take place.
· Utilize technology and innovation methodologies to deliver more effectively and efficiently.
· Internal management reporting on all current activities and future planned activities.
· Maintain and manage all operational efficiencies to provide and ensure a high degree of organizational effectiveness.
· Performing quality checks on tasks and implement necessary changes if needed.

· Ensure that a constant update on operation deliverables is given at timely intervals.
· Communication and liaison with customers regarding progress and goals.
· Preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
Self-Development
· Sound product knowledge (Huawei Server, and storage infrastructure, CISCO MDS SAN switches, CISCO UCS Servers).
· Be proficient in presentation and business writing skills.
· Maintain all minimum SAN storage and Virtualization software certifications.
· Attend all agreed OEM’s training scheduled timeously.
· Prepare training and development plans for yourself bearing in mind your weaknesses, career, and objectives.
· Identify a suitable coach / mentor to improve your competence. Agree with a fixed coaching schedule with this coach.
· Responsible for self-development by keeping abreast of new developments within the industry related to area of responsibility.
· Any ad hoc function required to perform from management from time to time.
Pay: R10 000,00 - R100 000,00 per month
