LEGAL SECRETARY TO DIRECTOR

About the Role
We are seeking a highly competent, proactive Legal Secretary to support a Director in a fast-paced legal practice. This role is suited to a candidate who is efficient, detail-oriented, and able to manage a legal practice independently.
This is not a basic administrative role — we require someone who can anticipate needs, manage pressure, and operate at a professional level aligned with a Director’s expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full secretarial and administrative support to a Director
- Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence
- Manage and maintain legal files (electronic and physical)
- Handle diary management, including court dates, consultations, and deadlines
- Prepare and file court documents (including CaseLines / Court Online where applicable)
- Liaise professionally with clients, counsel, and third parties
- Manage billing processes, including time capturing, invoicing, and follow-ups
- Ensure strict adherence to deadlines and legal procedures
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) – essential
- Legal Secretarial qualification (advantageous)
- 5–10 years’ experience as a Legal Secretary, with at least 3 years supporting a Director or Partner
- Proven experience in a high-pressure legal environment
- Strong knowledge of South African court processes and procedures

- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability
Technical Skills
- Advanced MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Experience with CaseLines / Court Online
- Legal billing systems and document management systems
- Fast and accurate typing skills

- Experience in litigation and/or commercial law (if applicable)

Remuneration
Market-related salary, based on experience and capability.
