Job Description
A Code 14 Crane Truck Driver is responsible for operating heavy vehicles fitted with truck-mounted cranes to transport, load, lift, and deliver materials safely to various sites. The role combines professional heavy-duty driving with crane operation and strict adherence to safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a Code 14 heavy vehicle with mounted crane equipment
- Transport goods, machinery, construction materials, or containers to designated locations
- Load and offload cargo using the crane safely and efficiently
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Ensure cargo is properly secured before transportation
- Follow road traffic laws and company safety procedures
- Complete delivery notes, logbooks, and inspection reports
- Perform basic crane and truck maintenance checks
- Communicate with dispatchers, supervisors, and site personnel
- Report mechanical faults, accidents, or delays immediately
- Adhere to lifting capacity limits and safe rigging practices
Requirements
- Valid South African Code 14 (EC) driver’s licence
- Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Certified crane operator qualification or licence
- Minimum 5 years’ experience driving heavy-duty trucks and operating cranes
- Good knowledge of road safety regulations and lifting procedures
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or travel long distances if required
- Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments
