We are seeking an ICT Security Operations Assistant to join our ICT team, at the Perishable Products Export Control Board.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, administering, and responding to security incidents within the organisation's ICT systems, network, and infrastructure to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability.
- Ensuring optimal performance of all Cyber Security tools and systems
Coordinate monthly and quarterly reviews across the organisation and compile monthly reports.
Review and analyse security logs and alerts to identify potential security breaches and threats.
Manage vulnerability management, manage remediation actions, and provide monthly reporting.
Conduct quarterly Awareness training.
Manage daily Cyber Security calls and approvals up to closure.
- To assist recovery of all ICT Systems in case of a disaster
- Assist in ensuring collaboration between the different ICT teams
- Assist in ensuring ICT Governance and Compliance
Collection of requested audit evidence.
Managing the remediation of audit findings and keeping the CAP up to date.
Provide regular status updates on these, as required.
- To ensure relevant ICT Policies and procedures are review and updated annually
- To ensure security incident response is managed in accordance with the PPECB Incident Response strategy.
Manage and monitor vulnerability and patch management
Perform Threat Intelligence - Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats and trends and apply this knowledge to improve the PPECB’s security defences.
Job Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or Computer Science or Information Security and Risk Management or equivalent
- Any of the following certifications - CompTIA Security+ and Microsoft Azure certifications
Any further industry related qualifications e.g. CISSP, CRISC, CompTIA CySA+, CCNA Cyber Ops, SSCP, CISA, CEH. (Desirable)

Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a cybersecurity or IT security operations role, including extensive AI experience.
- Security administration experience.
- Proven track record of managing and responding to security incidents.
- Experience in writing reports relating to incidents
- Drafting of policies & procedures
- Work closely with the other ICT teams to identify and resolve security issues.
- Monitor security systems to detect and respond to security incidents, threats, and vulnerabilities in a timely manner.
- Review and analyse security logs and alerts to identify potential security breaches and threats.
- Manage vulnerability assessments and remediation.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft 365 product suite
- AI implementation and agent management
- Experience in a similar role within a large enterprise or government organisation. (Desirable)
Experience with cloud security platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). (Desirable)

Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of security technologies.
- Knowledge of common cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS).
Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as POPIA, GDPR, or PCI-DSS. (Desirable)

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective reporting and collaboration.
