PURPOSE OF JOB
As a Vida Barista, you will bring energy, passion and excellent customer service to every shift. You will build positive relationships with customers, create a welcoming store experience, and help ensure customers return for their favourite coffee and food items.
The role is responsible for preparing and serving quality hot and cold beverages, including coffee and tea, as well as handling and preparing food items such as sandwiches, wraps, muffins and pastries. You will also explain menu items, maintain a clean and organised work environment, support stock control, and ensure customers are comfortable and satisfied.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
· Greet and welcome customers in a friendly, energetic and professional manner, while informing them about promotions, specials or new menu items.
· Take accurate customer orders, paying attention to preferences such as coffee blend, milk alternatives, sweetness level, temperature and any special requests.
· Prepare and serve beverages and food items according to Vida standards, including grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and preparing sandwiches, baked goods and other menu items.
· Promote coffee, tea and food items by explaining product differences, recommending options and educating customers on flavour profiles and brewing methods.
· Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards by cleaning and restocking workstations and dining areas, sanitising equipment and utensils, and removing waste as required.
· Continuously develop knowledge of brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation and presentation techniques to support consistent product quality.
· Update signage, displays and product presentation areas to support customer engagement and drive sales.
· Monitor stock levels, take inventory and replenish items in display cases, at tables and behind the counter.
· Work as part of a fun, high-energy team, supporting colleagues during busy trading periods and contributing to a positive store culture.
· Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, health and quality control standards at all times.
REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
· Previous barista experience is required, preferably in a fast-paced coffee shop or quick-service environment such as Vida e Caffè, Seattle Coffee Company, Bootlegger or a similar brand.
· Strong commitment to customer satisfaction, service excellence and creating a memorable customer experience.
· Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with customers and team members.
· Availability to work shifts aligned to peak trading hours, including early mornings, night shifts, weekends and public holidays where required.
· Matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
