Supports GMP compliant manufacture of pharmaceutical products by ensuring maximum online time of process Utility services supplied to Manufacturing. Responsible for operation, maintenance, engineering projects, plant improvement, maintenance standby and planning of preventive maintenance activities on processes and process equipment within the Services department.
This Job is specific to the delivery of electrical, refrigeration and mechanical expertise within engineering team. Cross-over skills within process control and/or instrumentation.
- N6 or Diploma electrical or Instrumentation or mechanical engineering and trade tested Electrician or Instrumentation or Refrigeration or fitter (minimum of two trade tests).
- Three years work experience in a process and/or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in PLC, SCADA and micro-controlled systems
- Knowledge of SAP PM or similar will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of OSH Act as it pertains to electrical safety
- GMP exposure preferred

- Performing routine checks of all equipment and systems for correct operation
- Schedule maintenance activities as defined by the preventative maintenance plan
- Facilitate the calibration of measuring and control instruments according to defined schedules and production requirements
- Maintaining records and schedules for specified plant and equipment.
- Attend all breakdowns during the shift and report on the status.
Evaluate and facilitate repairs of plant equipment and identify actions to prevent recurrences
- Analyse problems and determining required maintenance /repair work to ensure continuity.
- Prepare incident /deviation report and advising manager of steps taken.
- Liaise with third party contractors where repairs are not possible on site
- Track and report on progress of repairs required.
- Monitor and advise on improvement of systems to prevent recurrences
- Work 12-hour shift 4 days ON and 4 days OFF pattern as rostered.
- Analyse breakdown situation, carrying out required maintenance / repair work to ensure continuity of production and if the problem remains unresolved, then advise respective manager. The Department Manager will then agree on next steps with respect to product integrity.
- If the problem cannot be fixed, inform Production Services Engineer.
- Help operations with machine start-ups and checks.
- Co-ordinate maintenance activities on NBI equipment
- Perform isolations as per agreed protocols

Stock Control
- Ensures routine ordering of spares or parts when needed for the work to be completed.
- Ensure sufficient spares are kept by working with storeman to recommend spares requirements.
- Provide practical demonstrations of equipment set up operation and close down.
- Evaluate competency of operators according to predefined standards.
- Assist operators in troubleshooting and development of their skills for first line maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Writing of maintenance and operating manuals for specified plant and equipment.
Commissioning unit operations
- Ensures execution of validation studies (IQ, OQ, PQ)
