WHO YOU ARE
AURA is looking for an experienced, dedicated, and knowledgeable individual to take on the role of Control Room Operator at AURA. The role is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will report directly to the Control Room Supervisor.
The control room operator's role is to effectively manage all types of test panic activations and fixed location activations using essential existing guidelines. The control room operator will be expected to monitor, identify, document, and investigate any inconsistencies that pertain to the safety and security of all user facilities, products, cash, property, and any other assets. It requires one to be practical, attentive to detail, adapt, and make decisions on the go—the controller must match the urgency behind every panic signal coming into the control room.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- The controller will perform a handover or takeover checklist at the beginning and end of their shift
- Manage all panic activations according to existing guidelines
- Report to the team leader/immediate senior person of any issues hindering job performance, system delays, hardware, etc.
- Remain professional and assertive in all levels of communication with users, responders, management and other staff
- Perform daily control room tasks with high integrity and efficiency
- Monitor trends and report any unusual activity to the team leader
- Respond promptly to random checks and keep accurate records of all communication
- Keep a record of impactful and insightful incidents and provide a statement
- Monitor entire response process via our control room software
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be PSIRA registered
- Must have minimum experience of 5 years as a Control Room Operator
- Experience in the security industry
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks; ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions from the existing guidelines
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast paced and challenging environment
- Computer literate
