What You’ll Do

Lead IAS 19 post-employment healthcare liability valuations, long-term funding assessments and related actuarial reporting

Provide technical input into healthcare, medical scheme and employee benefits consulting — including pricing, benefit design, scheme benchmarking and strategic market reviews

Develop and maintain actuarial models, Power BI dashboards, DAX measures, Python-based analytical workflows and management information systems

Translate actuarial findings into clear, commercially relevant insights for clients, consultants and executives

Support new business, tenders, renewals and retention initiatives with actuarial insight and evidence-based value propositions

Strengthen actuarial governance through peer review, model validation, documentation, audit trails and alignment with professional standards

Embed GRC, cyber resilience and information security considerations into actuarial processes

Manage, mentor and develop actuarial analysts — including work allocation, quality review, coaching and performance feedback

Identify and implement automation opportunities using Power Automate, Power Apps, Python and Copilot Premium

Contribute to the drafting and maintenance of actuarial, data governance and operational resilience policies
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience

Near or fully qualified actuary — FIA, FFA, FASSA, AMASSA or equivalent progression

Relevant degree in actuarial science, mathematical statistics, economics, finance or a related quantitative field; honours or postgraduate qualification preferred

Minimum five years’ relevant actuarial experience, preferably in healthcare, medical schemes, employee benefits, consulting or financial services

Strong working knowledge of the South African healthcare, medical scheme and employee benefits landscape, including applicable legislation and regulatory requirements
-
Experience in IAS 19 valuations, pricing, product analysis, long-term funding valuations, scheme benchmarking and MI reporting
-
Completed or eligible for CMS accreditation and relevant Key Individual or intermediary regulatory requirements where applicable
Technical Skills

High proficiency in Excel, Power BI, DAX, Python, actuarial modelling tools and data visualisation platforms

Experience with Power Automate, Power Apps or other low-code automation tools advantageous

Working knowledge of data warehousing, governed datasets, Microsoft Power Platform and Copilot Premium
-
Familiarity with ISMS principles, JS1/JS2 control frameworks, POPIA, cyber security awareness and GRC frameworks as they apply to actuarial data and reporting
