PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To design, review and co-ordinate the implementation of maintenance of occupational hygiene systems to ensure adherence to legislative and operational requirements to achieve zero Harm and sustain organisational performance.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:
- Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
- Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
- Manage SHEQ compliance within the section through effective use of the Vortex electronic Occupational Hygiene program
- Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report VOHE status.
PEOPLE:
Manage the Section:
- Ensure an enabling climate/culture
- Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
o Labour complement in line with budget
o Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Section
- Manage performance against set targets and competencies
o Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
- Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
- Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
- Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
- Conduct recruitment interviews.
CUSTOMERS:
- Ensure customer satisfaction
- Liaise with all interested and affected parties (12.1 Appointees, Local, Provincial, and National authorities, regulatory bodies, NGO’s, etc.)
- Build and maintain relations with all key stakeholders
- Represent the company on external committees.
BUSINESS PROCESSES:
Occupational Hygiene Management
- Identify and analyze key value drivers for the Occupational Hygiene function at WCM to ensure adherence to operational and legislative requirements.
- Review and develop standards, functional plans, policies, guidelines and practices in line with the overall business strategy, strategic mine plans, as well as relevant legislative requirements
- Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to facilitate synergy, co-ordination and support for the Occupational hygiene function
- Coordinate and review functional risks related to the Occupational Hygiene function to implement processes to minimise organisational risks and possible exposures.
- Conduct technical interpretations of new legislation, guidelines and directives in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure adherence by WCM
- Technical interpretation recommendation and reporting of Occupational Hygiene information to the relevant stakeholders including statutory organisations.
- Implementation and evaluate monitoring programs and data management. systems to provide relevant and timeous information to inform and facilitate effective business decision making.
- Continuously review Occupational Hygiene models based on latest information to timeously identify design or failing systems minimising potential risks
- Ensure that new or changes in Occupational Hygiene models integrate with current Occupational Hygiene systems within WCM.
- Ensure effective emergency preparedness strategies and procedures are in place and monitoring thereof.
- Ensure Occupational Hygiene data is available for risk based medical compliance.
- Ensure legal compliance in terms of the MHSA and or other applicable legislation.
GROWTH:

- Standardise Occupational Hygiene management systems and processes across Business Units.
