VACANCY: TURNER MACHINIST
Location: Southern Pumps – Montague Gardens, Cape Town
Southern Pumps is seeking a skilled and experienced Turner Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for machining, repairing, and manufacturing precision components to support our pump manufacturing and workshop operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate manual lathes and other machining equipment safely and efficiently.
- Manufacture and repair mechanical components according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, and other machining operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and measurements.
- Ensure all components meet required quality standards and tolerances.
- Conduct inspections of completed work and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain workshop equipment and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Assist with pump repairs, modifications, and general workshop requirements.
- Work closely with the production and engineering teams to meet deadlines.
Requirements:
- Qualified Turner Machinist / Fitter & Turner qualification preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a machining environment.
- Experience with pump components or rotating equipment will be advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges, etc.).
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving skills.
