Role Overview
The Business Analyst will serve as a key bridge between business stakeholders and the technical delivery team, translating complex telecom operator requirements into clear, actionable functional specifications. Operating within a client-facing delivery environment in South Africa, the role requires strong analytical capability, hands-on experience with BSS/OSS domains, and the ability to manage stakeholder expectations across multiple workstreams. The successful candidate will drive requirements elicitation, solution design support, and acceptance testing to ensure delivered solutions meet agreed business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with client stakeholders to elicit, document, and validate business and functional requirements across BSS domains including billing, customer management, order management, and revenue assurance.
- Produce high-quality business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications, user stories, use cases, and process flow diagrams aligned to project delivery methodology.
- Facilitate workshops, requirement review sessions, and sign-off meetings with client and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with solution architects, developers, and QA teams to ensure requirements are understood, feasible, and traceable throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Support the preparation of functional design documents (FDDs) and contribute to solution mapping against Tecnotree product capabilities.
- Define and co-ordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) plans, test scripts, and defect triage in partnership with the client QA team.
- Manage requirement change requests through formal change control, assessing impact on scope, schedule, and cost.
- Maintain a requirements traceability matrix (RTM) and ensure complete traceability from business need through to test evidence.
- Provide regular status updates and escalate risks or blockers to the Delivery Lead in a timely manner.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of BA practices, templates, and tooling within the South Africa delivery team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 5 – 8 years of experience as a Business Analyst, with a minimum of 3 years in a telecom BSS/OSS environment.
- Demonstrable experience documenting requirements for billing, mediation, revenue management, or customer management systems.
- Proficiency in producing BRDs, FDDs, user stories, use cases, and process models (BPMN or equivalent).
- Experience facilitating UAT cycles, including test plan preparation and defect management.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage at both operational and senior management levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum delivery methodology.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to Tecnotree product suite or comparable telecom BSS platforms (Amdocs, Netcracker, CSGI, or similar).
- Experience working with African telecom operators or in a multicultural, distributed delivery environment.
- Familiarity with API-based integration concepts and the ability to review API specifications in support of requirements validation.
- Knowledge of eTOM / TAM business process frameworks.
- Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP, CCBA) or Agile (Certified Scrum Product Owner or equivalent).
- Proficiency in tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Visio, or equivalent requirements and project management tooling.
