Job Description
The Shift Leader: is responsible to supervise the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical function and activities at the Laboratory ensuring the timeous sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turn-around-times. To support the Lab Supervisor & Lab Manager: Laboratory to meet business objectives and ensure compliance to the Company policies and business guidelines.

To supervise the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical function and activities at the Laboratory.

To ensure the timeous sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation and reporting of results to comply with the contractually agreed turn-around-times of reporting.

Supervision of the key performance indicators of the Lab Technicians and Operators.
-
Measuring the performance of the individual Lab Technicians and Operators and manage accordingly.

Time management and attendance control of Lab Technicians and Operators.

Responsible for Learning and Development of Lab Technicians and Operators.

Ensure that adequate and appropriate manpower resources, equipment and tools are available for total operational efficiency.

Maintain sampling, sample preparation and laboratory equipment.

Control and request ordering of consumables from the Lab Supervisor and assist with the maintaining of associated records and stock levels.

Assist to maintain all human resources related documentation for the shift.

Assist the Lab Supervisor with the responsibility for revenue and expense control of the Laboratory Operations, in line with operational budgets and the business strategies.

Effectively assist with the management and continuous improvement of the quality management system, and the implementation of any certifications and accreditation systems within the business lines.

Assist management and carry responsibility for the effective implementation and maintenance of SGS QHSE systems, as well as client specific safety standards (e.g. ISO 17025 & NOSA).

Assist the Lab Supervisor with liaison and technical support to all present and potential clients.

Assist the Lab Supervisor with complaints and claim resolution.

Assist the Lab Supervisor with technical and sales support.

Keep abreast of new trends, current development and relevant research.

Attend all meetings as per client requirements.

Maintain a minimum of 75 % scoring with the Glencore KPI’s.

Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by direct line manager.

Conduct relevant monthly meetings with Lab Technicians and Operators.

Assist the Lab Supervisor with the preparation for the monthly service level agreement performance meetings with clients.

Assist the Lab Supervisor with the quarterly client satisfaction surveys to be done with all stake holders.
Qualifications

Preferably a Degree/Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemistry.

Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science

Coal Beneficiation qualification will be advantageous.

TQMS qualification advantageous.
Additional Information
REQUIRED SKILLS
Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience, preferably in a coal environment.

Coal sampling, sample preparation, analysis and coal beneficiation experience essential.
