KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform mechanical maintenance, repairs, and installations on conveyor systems, structures, and related equipment
- Execute conveyor belt work including slacking, tensioning, cutting, clamping, splicing support, and alignment
- Support conveyor structure moves and extensions, including lifting, positioning, and recommissioning activities
- Conduct troubleshooting and fault finding on mechanical systems during moves and normal operations
- Perform lockout/isolation procedures and work safely at height when required
- Work closely with Boilermakers, Artisan Aids, Telehandler Operators, and the Supervisor to complete tasks efficiently
- Participate in night-shift operations during critical activities (e.g., S-curve travel during CV10 Move)
- Conduct daily inspections, report defects, and ensure equipment is maintained to high standards
- Comply with all mine health and safety standards, red permit area requirements, and gas area protocols
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified Millwright with a valid Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal or equivalent)
- Minimum 3–5 years post-qualification experience in mining, heavy industrial, or conveyor maintenance environments
- Strong experience with conveyor systems, belt work, and mechanical maintenance on large-scale equipment
- Medical fitness certificate (red permit / gas area fitness preferred, or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver’s licence
- Ability and willingness to work shifts, including night shifts during critical project phases
- Excellent safety record and thorough understanding of mine health and safety standards (MHSA)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills
ADVANTAGEOUS
- Previous experience on conveyor moves, extensions, or major shutdown/maintenance projects in open-cast mining
- Experience working at Exxaro or similar mining operations
- Working at heights and confined space entry certificates
