Role purpose
The Data & Analytics Specialist provides data and analytics expertise within Eskom Group IT’s Business Solution and Development Services (BSDS). The role sets direction for a modern data and analytics architecture, applies a range of data science techniques to very large and streaming data sets, and shapes the enterprise information-management landscape.
The resource brings knowledge of utility business models, hybrid (cloud / on-premises) data warehousing and data-fabric approaches, and ensures analytics work meets enterprise data-quality, data-classification and POPIA requirements — enabling Eskom to derive value from its data and become ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
Key responsibilities
- Set direction for a modern data and analytics architecture, evolving and taking the framework forward in context.
- Apply a variety of data science techniques such as summarisation and forecasting to enterprise data.
- Work with very large data sets and streaming data sets aligned to utility business models.
- Design and support hybrid data warehouse (cloud / on-premises) and data-fabric solutions.
- Address enterprise information management, data quality, data classification and POPIA compliance.
1. Educational requirements
- At least a relevant IT-related Bachelor’s degree (BTech degrees are included).
Evidence required: certified copies of degrees and academic qualifications.
2. Professional requirements (certifications)
The resource is expected to hold recognised data and analytics certification and/or training. This criterion is a gatekeeper — a score of zero is an immediate disqualification.

- Skills in a variety of data science techniques (e.g. summarisation, forecasting, etc.).
- Direction setting with a modern data and analytics architecture — evolving and taking a framework forward in context.
- Knowledge of utility business models and very large data sets and streaming data sets.
- Knowledge of POPIA and data classification, and understanding of enterprise information management and data quality issues.
- Hybrid data warehouse (cloud / on-premises) and data fabric.

Enterprise-scale project experience
Experience working in large organisations (more than 5,000 employees) that run multiple enterprise solutions — for example ERP, Work Management, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Asset Management and IT/OT solutions — to enable Eskom to be ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
