Applications are invited for the above-mentioned position to be based in Stellenbosch. The successful applicant will report to the Plant Manager, SA Distilleries Cluster.
Purpose of the position:
The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective HSE Function within the SA Distilleries Cluster (DiSA) and to ensure that the HSE standards of the company are implemented and maintained through competent and empowered employees.
Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:
- Achieve and maintain adherence to OSH Act; COID Act; Heineken Beverages (HB) Standards; Municipal & Building regulations; SABS codes; ISO Standards, etc. for all DiSA sites
- Develop/co-develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures and standards in line with all legislative requirements
- Interpret and communicate risk control requirements as well as policies, procedures and standards to all relevant role-players within DiSA
- Implement and maintain Heineken Beverages’ Risk Management Program to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Conduct and facilitate hazard identification and risk assessments, audits and investigations
- Report status and level of compliance to risk control program to management
- Assist site management on Operational and Capital Expenditure requirements
- Implement, maintain and ensure compliance with relevant Group Safety & Fire Prevention
- Ensure emergency planning, preparedness and response across DiSA sites
- Liaising with relevant emergency services
- Oversee and/or conduct investigations of HSE incidents/accidents
- Ensure that procedures are in place for the protection of HB assets
- Ensure integrity of all monitoring systems
- Lead effective internal and external relationships
- Ensure appointment of skilled and qualified HSE employees
- Identify training and development needs and support talent management programme to ensure effective HSE succession plans
- Perform corrective or disciplinary actions when required
- Responsible for a HSE business plan for DiSA through planning and setting of objectives that is aligned to Heineken Beverages’ mission and objectives
- Ensuring team members have clear, relevant and measurable goals
- Develop plans and review performance against targets regularly to ensure continuous improvement
- Implement new ideas and improve methods, systems and work processes that will pro-actively lead to higher levels of Health & Safety for all
- Coordinate and oversee 3rd party Security Contracting Company and their service level agreement
- Actively participate and drive TPM business initiatives
- Ensure Heineken Beverages Life Saving Commitments are rolled out within the DiSA Cluster and compliance thereto
The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Risk Management / -Auditing or Engineering
- At least 3-5 years’ relevant experience in a similar role within an FMCG manufacturing environment
- Extensive knowledge of the OHSAct, DIFR/LTIFR system, ISO 14001, ISO 9000, ISO 45001, Construction Regulations, National Building Regulations, COIDA, relevant SANS Codes
- Sound knowledge of Environmental Management Systems
- Team player with sound interpersonal skills and strong relationship building ability
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Must have own reliable transport and be willing to do extensive local travel between the various DiSA Cluster sites, i.e. Worcester, Goudini, Wellington and Van Ryn
- Ability to influence various stakeholders to follow risk management strategies
- Ability to plan, organize, co-ordinate and facilitate

- Sound business and financial acumen
- Prior experience in a flammable liquid or explosive atmospheres environment would be highly advantageous
