Project Engineer (Mining Industry)
A leading engineering company based in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering mining and industrial engineering projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with client specifications. The role requires strong technical expertise, project management skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Project Engineer within the mining, EPCM or heavy industrial sector.
- Bachelor's Degree or BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) will be advantageous.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Sound knowledge of mining equipment, processing plants, infrastructure and engineering standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software such as MS Project or Primavera P6.
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
- Willingness to travel to mining operations and project sites when required.
- Plan, execute and manage engineering projects from initiation through to completion.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets and resource plans.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, civil and instrumentation disciplines throughout project execution.
- Ensure projects comply with client specifications, engineering standards and statutory requirements.
- Manage project risks, identify mitigation measures and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Monitor project progress against milestones and provide regular status reports to management and clients.
- Review engineering drawings, technical documentation and design deliverables.
- Coordinate procurement activities and ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
- Manage contractors, consultants and suppliers to ensure quality workmanship and contractual compliance.
- Facilitate project meetings, progress reviews and technical discussions with stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality management systems.
- Support commissioning activities, site inspections and project handovers.
- Manage project documentation, change control and close-out reports.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for future work.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers where required.
